# Waking Up to a Dream

Like a sailor without a compass,  
I have been going in circles,  
Despite knowing there is no ocean to steer through.

Do not fight the waves, says the master,  
As he stirs his tea.

The moon runs away from the night,  
And hides inside a lake decorated with stars. 

Nothing happens, he says,  
As he changes to new clothes.

I want to say something  
But my lips refuse to part.  
Ripples emerge in my mind.

Trees wave their branches goodbye.  
An owl’s hoot drills through the night.

I open my eyes to fall asleep  
And wake up to the dream that I was.
